I like muted tones pictured in the Zone of Interest for exteriors and harder contrasts for interiors like ‘Ripley’, ‘The Lives of Others’ and both from ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’. Those films foreboding tension through tone keep us engaged albeit a bit broken, teetering on hope and despair.
