CASTING + CHARACters:

Frieda STEIN  is a proud Jewish native Berliner and fierce intellectual. Frieda grew up sailing, writing and mastering jujitsu per her father, Emil’s, recommendation. She is an empowered and independent modern woman.

Robert OECK is a born charmer and womanizer with little conviction other than having fun and celebrating life. A gastronome, absurd bon vivant and trained pastry chef. He is the head patissier at the Adlon Hotel in Berlin and beloved brother of Herbert.

Emil Stein is a Jewish intellectual and lover of his native, Berlin. A jazz enthusiast and avid sailor before the Nazis, he is a publisher by trade, but finds himself working in a factory and hiding in plain sight until he must flee Berlin to go into exile with his daughter Frieda.

Herbert OECK is a complicated family man. Charming and smart, he is a high ranking SS tank commander and beloved brother to Robert, who finds himself active in the resistance movement having become disenchanted with the horrors of Nazism. He learns how to become Frieda and Emil’s unlikely savior and protector  through guidance from his boss and mentor , Otto von Thiel.

Otto von Thiel is Herbert’s SS boss; an aristocrat and exquisite career soldier at the top of his game playing the unfortunate real life role of SS Gruppeführer and leader of the panzer divisions that led the Polish invasion. A brilliant bon vivant, incorrigible francophile, father, mentor, protector and fearless semi-closeted homosexual. He is the angel with black wings.
